Clophill Roundabout Closure
Plan ahead: There will be a full closure of the A6 south arm of the roundabout (from the roundabout to the Jet garage) between 8am on 20 October and 8pm on 30 October carry out works.
We know that people with local knowledge will not take the cumbersome diversion route suggested by CBC Highways and therefore traffic in our village is likely to increase greatly. Unfortunately we cannot stop the closure nor can we stop vehicles using the village roads.
The Parish Council has requested special measures are put in place to assist traffic and pedestrian flow through the village during the works. This will include:
- Signage erected to indicate that our village roads are not suitable for HGV traffic.
- Warning signs near the bridge on Barton Road advising drivers of the dip in the road.
- Installation of a temporary pedestrian crossing close to the junction of Recreation Rise and the High Street.
- Area near the buildout on Clophill Road to be coned off to avoid vehicles parking there and blocking visibility.
There are things we residents can also do to help with traffic flow e.g.: parking in driveways and not on the main village roads if able to do so, walking children to school or car sharing, leaving earlier than planned to avoid traffic etc.
Hopefully we won’t experience another grid locked village but if you do see or experience anything that really isn’t acceptable please take a photo (if safe to do so) and email it to the Parish Council with details (clerk@gravenhurst-pc.gov.uk). We may not be able to resolve the issue this time but we know the roundabout will close again in the future and may be able avoid things from happening again.
