Be a Councillor event

CBC have organised an informal event planned for 27th September from 4pm to 6pm in the Central Bedfordshire Council Priory House council offices (Central Bedfordshire Council Priory House, Monks Walk, Chicksands, Shefford, Bedfordshire, SG17 5TQ).

The event aims to give anyone who might be considering standing as a local councillor the opportunity to hear first-hand from councillors and officers about what’s involved. CBC are keen to encourage a diverse range of candidates from a cross-section of the community to this form of public service.

For anyone considering becoming a councillor there is a range of information and advice available. A booklet has been produced which, amongst other things, explains in detail who is eligible to stand, the role of a councillor and explains the steps involved to become a candidate.

The booklet explains that councillors don’t have to be highly educated or have a profession and that skills gained through raising a family, caring for a sick or disabled relative, volunteering, or being active in faith or community groups can be just as valuable.
